Joao Martins is a pianist, composer, and researcher specializing in jazz and Brazilian music.
He is a recipient of the Ingolf Dahl Award and a grant recipient from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. He has published through Grove Music Online, Global Perspectives on Women Pianists, and Nineteenth-Century Music Review and has presented at SMT and international conferences.
He is Visiting Assistant Professor at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Dance Accompanist at Chapman University while keeping a busy private studio teaching piano, music theory, and composition.
He holds a PhD in History and Theory of Music from University of California - Irvine, an M.A. in History from University of Amsterdam, a B.M. from Berklee College of Music, and a B.A. in English and French Language and Literature from University of Coimbra.
