Hussein Banai is a professor at Indiana University in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies. His work is grounded in the oral history of Iranian and American scholars and journalists who are witnesses of complicated US-Iran diplomacy. Currently, Banai is working on a book about liberal political thought in modern Iran.

Robert Edelman is a Professor at University of California, San Diego, and has been since 1972 when he received his doctorate from Columbia University. As a former sports-writer and radio announcer, Edelman brings an interesting insider’s take to his specialty in Russia and Sports history. As such, he has consulted on documentaries for HBO, PBS, ESPN, and CBS at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games. 

Dr. Erin Lockwood is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Irvine. Her research areas include International Political Economy, Global Financial Politics, Global Inequity, and many other areas at the intersection of International Relations and Economics. 

On Friday, September 27th, activist Miry Whitehill came to Â鶹ÊÓƵto talk about her nonprofit, a refugee resettlement organization based in Northeast LA called Miry’s List.

On Thursday, September 26, 2019, Dr. Momin Rahman, a professor of sociology at Trent University, lectured students on Queer Muslim Challenges to the Understanding of LGBT Rights: decolonizing human rights through intersectionality. In his talk, Professor Rahman identified issues that the queer Muslim community faces and offered solutions to empower the community.

On September 3, Alison Brysk, a leading researcher and professor of human rights, spoke at Â鶹ÊÓƵ on the topic of reproductive rights regression.

Dr. Steven Jensen of the Danish Institute for Human Rights presented a narrative of human rights which highlights new scholarship on the Global South's important role.
